"We're a Big 10 family. My mom went to Wisconsin, my dad went to Illinois, and now I'm going to Michigan." Matt Vogrich of Lake Forest High School has committed to Head Coach John Beilein and the Michigan Wolverines. The six-foot-four shooting guard committed on a visit to the Ann Arbor campus this past weekend, choosing the Wolverines over Notre Dame and Stanford.
Vogrich is a hard nosed defender, hustle player on both sides of the ball, crafty passer, and is great off the dribble, but first and foremost he is one of the truly elite shooters in the nation. Michigan's offense caters to guys with sweet outside strokes. "Coach Beilein showed me clips of his teams (when he was the coach) at West Virginia. His teams shoot a lot of three's and they play just the right way. And I already knew (from his success at WV) that he knew how to win," Vogrich told Illinoishsbasketball.com.
The unassuming assasin told me that one of the main reasons he chose the Wolverines was because of Coach Beilein, specifically because of his morals and family values. "I really love the Beilein family. He is a family oriented guy, and when he took me to his house to have dinner with his family I told him (that I wanted to commit)," Vogrich said. "His wife and kids were there, and the whole team was there too. After dinner he brought me aside and asked me how I felt. I told him I was coming to Michigan. He was really excited and he just stood up and shook my hand."
Despite having some other incredible college options, Vogrich had a feeling that Michigan might seem like the right fit when he went on the visit. "Yeah, I scheduled (the Michigan visit) last, kind of knowing (that It might be the right fit). I have a lot of friends going there already, it's close to home so my mom and dad and friends can see me play, and I'm a Big Ten guy. All the schools were great it was just the right fit. Stanford was great, but it was too far away, and Notre Dame was amazing, but Michigan... I just fell in Love with it."
Vogrich will be ranked in the top 5 in the next class of 2009 rankings.
I would like to congradulate Matt and the entire Vogrich family for making a great choice on behalf of the entire illinoishsbasketball.com family, and congrats to Michigan on landing a truly stand up kid.
